Sure, it this is one my accounts  so I do have a vested interest in the sale of the home so he’ll start building the next one, but if this pisses off fintail then even better.

That closet is beautiful. Just have to ignore the off-center window.

That front door sure is something. For a... Uh, *unique* style like that do the new homeowners ask for it or... Is that just how builders are doing front doors nowadays?

A house with some color! I like it, now I just need to find another like 2.6 million.

I know the guy who sold that closet! Sorry -- couldn't control the window placement.

I don’t...hate it?

I don’t like the vertical cladding, the ad copy is pretentious bullshit typical of the real estate industry, the stone veneer is played out, but overall it is inoffensive. It looks like a house. The interior is pretty mellow without a lot of competing or clashing textures, nothing too flamboyant.

So will it sell to techdorks, trust fund transplants, or residency-purchasing offshore arrivals?

Re: front door. Only on homes that basically wanna scream “we spent more money than we needed to and we don’t care because it won’t sit on the market like the home down the street that only paid for peasant doors.”

Pivot doors are awesome. Feels like opening a bank vault.

Why do all these homes look like they were modeled in LEGO?

I agree with fintail on the interior. It’s fine.

Can’t say I care for the exterior at all.  On the plus side, I like almost all the choices made on the inside.  Nice views too.  Could do without the dumb light fixtures, but apparently that’s the style now.

Not going to lie, I want to open and close that door multiple times. Speaking of doors... I saw my first barn door style front door today. Tracks along the top and bottom, with a weatherstripping seal so strong that I needed both arms to slide the door open.

I was thinking about something earlier today... Do you ever see an electronic temp control for showers in any of your fancy houses? If I was a baj illionaire I’d like to have a preset shower temp available at the press of a button. Or be able to go up and down temperature in precise 1° increments. That’s got to be a thing, right?

It seems like a nice house. Not my style, but nice. Over $2M.... yikes. One of the many reasons I will never live on the west coast.

I’m sure it is in homes in some price bracket I've not cracked , but I can only remember seeing one controlled by a pad at the entry of a “shower cave."

I got in and  out of my parents house through the cat door as a child. They’re sort of like cockroaches, they can fit through any sized opening and they’re relatively hard to squash.

I’ve stayed at a hotel in Germany with electronic shower controls.  I don’t think it allowed a specific temperature, but turning it on and adjusting the temperature was based on a control pad.

Re:Pivot Door

More door, but not a wider entryway unless you take the door out, no idea how hard that would be? If you did could you drive a Honda S600   inside and park it in the living room.  I better go to bed, the mind as wandering.

I could put one of those hot water systems in my house tomorrow for around AU$1500... instantaneous hot water heater - just a box on the outside wall, hooked to water and what you call propane,  and two controllers, one in the kitchen and another in the bathroom. Not exactly fancy or expensive.

It’s surprisingly common in Japan even in small apartments. Steam on the other hand is for fancy people. I was working on a house a while back with steam vents and while I didn’t get to use it it look neat, and a bit complicated.

For giggles I looked to see what similar money could get you in Tulsa. Against all odds... not as much as I was expecting, at least in city limits. While there is some really tasteful stuff in the $1-2M range, things get weird after you pop over $2M. That said, almost everything listed had over 8,000 sqft and most of it was pretty tasteless.

This place is OK , benefiting from having been built in 1930, a great location, and a 4 car garage. Most of my concerns with it could be solved with a whole bunch of paint.

Kinja'd!!!

Probably be my pick? Most of the others  were prime examples of the “Southern Tasteless” style, in which a lot of money is spent to make a properly look worse.

At $2.25M with a recent $150k price cut... yeah I think this would be my pick. You can always take the difference and build a bigger garage...

It’s cool....but SO busy, architecturally (and that retaining wall needs some finish!) .

We’ve got a few like this popping up on older lots, where the only way to replace a 1,300sf house from the 50s is to just build vertically so you can achieve your 4,000sf goal :)

There are parts of Birmingham where this would also be $2MM, which is ridiculous here . And 2 miles away it would be $650k. The market is really bifurcated like that. All depends on if you want really rich neighbors, or just “doing pretty well” neighbors.

Something that just began to bug me (because I just started looking at homes) is the lack of photos of the garage/storage areas. Obviously for people like us, a decent garage is a higher priority than an asbestos free home (/s). But descriptions usually don’t do it justice.

“Plenty of storage room!” *one 6x6 closet*
